Teacher Consultants

The teacher consultants are mathematics, science and computer science teachers from area high schools.  They will assist with the Summer Enrichment Institute and, by doing so, will aid in building linkages between high schools, their STEM curricular offerings and the STEM-faculty at Lawson.  The consultants will also  assist the faculty in developing the new instructional strategies that will bridge the gap in instructional practices between high school and colleges.

Interns/Work Study Students

Ten interns/work study students are selected from Lawson State’s pool of STEM majors.  These students will gain additional exposure to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics by assisting professionals in a  noncompetitive or non-classroom environment.  In some areas students will assist the instructor in setting up science labs, monitoring computer labs, assisting with scientific research, etc.  During the summer, interns will be placed with Lawson’s industry partners.

Faculty Development

The STEM faculty at Lawson State will participate in seminars and roundtable discussions.  This will aid faculty in fully understanding critical thinking, problem-based-learning, portfolio assessment and other innovative techniques for enhancing instructional methods.
